Search filter operators

We added some search operators to exclude results by words, phrases or domain.

• Use -domain.com for excluding a specific domain.
  E.g.: "Family Guy" -twitter.com
• Use -keyword for excluding results containing specific keyword/s.
  E.g.: "Family Guy" –peter
• Use any combination of previous criteria to get what you’re looking for
  E.g.: "Family Guy" -peter -twitter.com

New API features

We updated our API with new values on the returning objects, and support for pagination. You can see more details in our API documentation page.

New ordering by relevancy

We are testing a new way of ordering the search results, based on the relevancy of each one. Currently the results more relevant will be shown at the top of each page by default, in the future, we are going to add an option for allowing the user to choose how to order the results.

Today is a very important date for itpints, today we are  releasing a new version!

As you provably noted, we’ve changed the design, but we did important improvements in the search engine,  and added new search sources too.

The design process

Many people contributed to make this desing and all of them made a great work on it.

My brother Roger (who is a great cartoonist and web designer) was the firt in offering a hand when I decided to change the design, he made some good looking mock ups and logo prototypes.

After some time I realized he already had a lot of work and it was just too much for doing it for free. Then we hired Elio from Ilovecolors for doing the design. Elio made an excelent work  :)

When I needed to transform the design images into standard w3c compliant web pages I looked for Paula, who I think is the best person for doing  it.

The joining of Pixelatom.

Pixelatom is a team of freelancers I work with, we made of itpints a Pixelatom’s project and they’re contributing to make it grow much faster now. I’m very happy to have them helping in.

What’s next?

We’re still working on new features for itpints.

We are going to do a new version of the API which will be  more powerful. Also, we’ve disabled the advanced search for a while because we are working on that.

It’s been a while since I wrote the last post.  I’ve been very busy with some other projects I’m doing and preparing the upcoming version of itpints. This new version will include a complete new design and various improvements in performance and functionality. Also, an alpha version is already running for all those who want to help me with the testing process.

So, stay tuned! very soon itpints will become much better

This first version of the API is very simple and only allows to search without pagination. We’ll keep adding features in the future.

The API is entirely REST based and uses JSON for the responses. The developers don’t need an account to start using the API, and don’t need to request any special keys. Currently the API is free and not limited to any number of calls per day.
